General Information about the Band
Domu Africa is a West African band showcasing traditional percussion and vocals from the Griot histories of Senegal, West Africa. Domu Africa performs live percussion on a variety of African drums, Djembe, Djunjun, Sabar, and Tama, while their vocals stem from Islamic influenced praise singing and Baye Fall chanting. The combination is powerful and mesmerizing, guaranteed to make you dance! The members of the band, Ibrahima Ngom, Mbor Faye, Ousman Gueye and Adama Diop are all native Senegalese, who have studied and performed these rhythms and songs since childhood. Collectively they have toured and performed internationally with prominent West African Ballet Ensembles: Les Ballet d Afrique Noir, the 2nd National Ballet du Senegal, Sinemew Ballet, Sing Sing Rhythms, The Ballet Bougarabou. They have appeared at Carnegie Hall, The World Trade Center and the Alvin Ailey Dance School in New York. Locally Domu Africa has performed at Reggae on the River, First Night, Cabrillo Music Festival, The Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation, Juneteenth, UCSC, CSUMB, and at schools all over the county as SPECTRA artists through the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County.
